Bruce Springsteen's daughter, Jessica Springsteen, will not be competing for the United States at the Olympics in Paris. Over the weekend, the United States Equestrian Federation released the list of athletes representing the US team, but Jessica was not included.
The three athletes selected for the U.S. team are Kent Farrington, Laura Clout and McClain Ward, with Carl Kuhl as an alternate. Farrington is ranked sixth in the world and will be competing in her third Olympic Games, while Clout is ranked 35th and Ward is 15th. (Ward was part of the gold medal-winning teams in 2004 and 2008, while Farrington helped the U.S. win silver in 2016.)
At the 2021 Olympics, Jessica made her competitive debut alongside Clout and Ward and helped the U.S. win a silver medal. At the time, she was ranked 27th in the world. Springsteen is currently ranked 127th.
“We are incredibly fortunate to have three of the sport's most experienced athletes, all riding horses in top form heading into the Olympics,” team principal Robert Ridland said in a statement, “plus we also have a strong pair of alternate athlete horses in Carl and Caracol, who have both been in great form recently.”
“Now that the selection has been made, we are 100% focused on Paris,” Rydland added.
Ahead of competing in the 2021 Olympics, Jessica said: people She said it was the “greatest honour” to represent her country and spoke about her relationship with her sire.
“Sometimes when you have horses it takes a long time to get to know each other, but with this horse I just bonded right away and we've been dating based on that ever since,” she said at the time. “We definitely have a great relationship of trust.”
