“We hired Kenney in 2016 to revitalize our women's basketball program,” said Virginia Tech Director of Athletics Whit Babcock. “Needless to say, Kenny and his staff and student-athletes have built a culture of excellence on and off the court. He has been a great mentor to the young women of our women's basketball program and our faculty and was a great representative of the university. We hope that.''Kenny and his family are well on their way to the next chapter of his career.
“I remain confident in the trajectory of our women’s basketball program and that, combined with our resources, especially the NIL, the future of our women’s basketball program is bright.”
Brooks built the Hokies into a championship brand, leading the program to its first ACC Tournament win in 2023 and its first ACC Regular Season Championship in 2024. During his time at Blacksburg, Brooks compiled an overall record of 180-82, including a school record 31 wins. They won the 2022-23 season and reached the Final Four for the first time in program history.
Brooks won at least 20 games seven times in eight seasons at the helm of the Hokies and led Tech to the NCAA Tournament in four consecutive seasons (2021-2024).
Virginia Tech will immediately begin a national search for the Hokies' next women's basketball head coach.
