How will the Warriors use their 52nd overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft?
Some believe Golden State will join the James Gang.
In ESPN's latest 2024 NBA mock draft, the Warriors are projected to select longtime Golden State rival and current Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James' eldest son, Bronny James, with the No. 52 pick. As of May 31, the Warriors have no workouts scheduled with the younger brother (Courtesy of Jason Dumas of KRON 4 News).
The 19-year-old James struggled in his first and only collegiate season at USC, averaging just 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists while shooting just 36.6 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from three-point range.
But James is one of the greatest athletes and basketball players of all time, and NBA scouts value his tenacity, athleticism and overall potential to become a hyperactive Davion Mitchell-esque defender who can torment opponents just by getting across the half court.
Draymond Green, a longtime Warriors fan and admirer of the James family, spoke about what he likes about the youngster on “The Draymond Green Show” in April, perhaps offering a glimpse into what Golden State has in mind come June 26.
“Yeah, I think Bronny is a guy who can make it in the NBA,” emphatically proclaimed Klutch Sports athlete Green. “At worst, he's an NBA-caliber defender who can make shots… a three-point and defensive player. There are guys like that all over the NBA.” [He] He can pressure the ball and, at worst, be a backup point guard who can play full court and pressure the other team's lead guard. [and] We can change the tempo of our defense.”
The young guard declared for the draft on April 5 and had until May 29 to opt out. James stood by his decision to bet on himself.
In addition to his role as a prospect, James also offers an opportunity to lure his father into the team, for better or worse, and if the Warriors bring James' son to the Bay, there's a good chance his father will follow suit.
It would certainly be impressive if the father and son were to suit up in uniform in front of the Warriors' Chase Center crowd in San Francisco, after all, both James are huge fans of superstar and potential future teammate Stephen Curry.
ESPN reported Friday that the former Trojan is considered destined for the Warriors, but it's unclear where either James will be based when the 2024-25 NBA season begins.
