Bronny James received a warm welcome in his NBA Summer League debut, even though his Los Angeles Lakers were playing against the Sacramento Kings at Chase Center, home of the division-rival Warriors.
The son of four-time NBA MVP LeBron James made his long-awaited NBA debut on Saturday in San Francisco as the Lakers faced off against the Kings in the opening game of the annual California Classic. James finished with four points, two rebounds and two assists in 22 minutes on the court.
After the game, James spoke about the atmosphere at Chase Center, as reported by Associated Press' Janie McCauley.
“The atmosphere was better than I expected,” James told reporters when asked what surprised him most. “It's a big game for me, but I didn't expect the people of Golden State to be there and cheer me on, so it was just awesome.”
Will the positive reaction in the Bay Area continue Sunday? Well, James won't be taking part in the on-court action.
Just under an hour before kickoff, the Lakers confirmed that James would miss Game 2 of Sunday's California Classic against the Warriors due to swelling in his left knee.
The game will air at 3:30pm PST on NBC Sports Bay Area and will be streamed on the NBC Sports app.
