NORFOLK, Va. (WTKR) — Keyshawn Davis and Kelvin Davis step into the ring under the bright lights, but they both started their careers in Norfolk and they're always bragging about it in public.
Now Norfolk is on the road to show his support for his brothers.
A group of 55 fans is planning a bus trip to the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, to watch each of the brothers play on July 6. As of Wednesday afternoon, there were only two seats left for the project, which includes bus seats and tickets to the game.
“Everyone's just going out in little groups,” said Stephanie Payton, who helped organize the trip. “I said, 'Wouldn't it be great if we could all do a bus trip as a response to the entire 757 District?'”
Payton comes from a boxing family — she's a cousin of Pernell “Sweet Pea” Whittaker and grew up watching the Davis family fights — and now they're encouraging the next generation to take up the sport.
“I think it's great that Keyshawn and Kelvin both represent District 757,” she said. “They're influencing young people to get interested in sports and things like that, which is a good thing. These days, we want them to be involved in sports and not in the streets.”
Both Davis brothers, along with their youngest brother, Keeon, are part of DB3 Enterprises, which they started as the Three Boxing Brothers. Keeon, also known as “The Businessman” for his businesslike approach in the ring, boasts a 10-0 record with seven knockouts and will face Miguel Madueño in a 10-round lightweight bout on July 6. The bout will be a prelude to two co-main event bouts that evening.
Kelvin is 12-0 and will face Kevin Johnson on the undercard of the bout. Keon is a member of the U.S. team and is preparing for the Olympics this summer.
Keyshawn Davis' game will air on ESPN on the night of July 6th at 9pm ET, while fans can watch Kelvin's game on ESPN+ earlier in the evening.
