Boxer Ryan Garcia was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of damaging a hotel in the Beverly Hills section of Los Angeles, police said.
The 25-year-old American was detained on suspicion of felony criminal damage and later taken to hospital.
Garcia won by points against Devin Haney on April 20, but was suspended after testing positive for the banned substance ostarine twice before the fight.
Beverly Hills Police said they were called to the Waldorf Astoria for a report of an “intoxicated individual.”
“Garcia was a registered guest at the hotel and was found to have caused damage to a guest room and hotel hallway,” police added.
“The hotel management has requested the arrest of Mr. Garcia for criminal damage to property.
“He was arrested and transported by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for treatment.”
In a statement to BBC Sport, Garcia's lawyer, Darin T. Chavez, said Garcia was “distressed by the devastating news regarding his mother's health.”
“Ryan has been open about his mental health issues for many years and is currently carrying an immense emotional burden,” Chavez added.
“The support and understanding from his fans and the public is crucial as he navigates these personal challenges.”
Garcia has only one loss in 26 fights, a defeat to Gervonta Davis in 2023, and is considered one of the biggest stars in American boxing.
