Boston Bruins prospect Cole Spicer has announced he will be leaving the University of Minnesota Duluth hockey club while taking some time away from hockey. Spicer was a fourth-round pick by the Bruins in the 2022 NHL Draft and spent the past two seasons at UMD.
Spicer confirmed the decision to Matt Wellens of the Duluth News Tribune, adding that he will not be playing hockey for the time being to focus on mental and personal issues. The 20-year-old center missed the second half of last season after being deemed ineligible for academic reasons.
The 5-foot-10, 175-pound forward totaled eight goals and seven assists in 49 NCAA games and just finished up at the Bruins' development camp in early July. The Grand Forks, North Dakota native was the 117th overall draft pick and was a member of the USA National Development Program before attending the University of Minnesota Duluth.
