The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Jake Christiansen to a one-year, two-way contract for the 2024-25 National Hockey League (NHL) and American Hockey League (AHL) seasons, the club's president of hockey operations and general manager Don Waddell announced today.
Christiansen, 24, has appeared in 44 games with the Blue Jackets since making his NHL debut in the 2021-22 season, recording one goal, six assists, seven points, six penalty minutes and 36 shots on goal. In 2023-24, he has appeared in 12 games with the club, recording a 0-2-2 record, two penalty minutes and seven shots on goal. He originally signed a three-year entry-level contract with Columbus on March 4, 2020.
A native of West Vancouver, British Columbia, Christiansen has appeared in 211 AHL games with the Cleveland Monsters and Stockton Heat since making his professional debut in 2019-20, recording 40-100-140 assists, 134 penalty minutes and 581 shots on goal. In 2023-24, he played in 62 games with the Monsters and set single-season career highs of 13-33-46 assists, 34 penalty minutes and 183 shots on goal. Christiansen was named to both the AHL Second All-Star Team and the AHL All-Star Classic for the second time in his career and finished fourth in points, fifth in goals and ninth in assists on the AHL blue line last season.
The 6-foot-tall, 196-pound blue lineman also appeared in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic and was named to the league's second all-star team for the 2021-22 season after finishing first among AHL defencemen in goals, second in shots and fourth in points with 13-32-45 and 177 shots in 62 games. He appeared in 297 games with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League from 2015-20, recording 50-102-152 and 114 penalty minutes.
