The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed centre Dylan Gambrell to a one-year, two-way contract with the National Hockey League/American Hockey League for the 2024-25 season, Don Waddell, the club's president of hockey operations and general manager, announced today.
Gambrell, 27, has appeared in 233 career NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and San Jose Sharks from 2017-2023, recording 17 goals, 23 assists, 40 points, 79 penalty minutes, 202 shots and averaging 12:35 ice time. In his most recent NHL seasons, he set career highs with a 4-6-10 record in 60 games with the Senators in 2022-2023 and a 5-7-12 record in 49 games with the Sharks in 2020-2021. The forward was originally selected by San Jose with the 60th overall pick in the second round in the 2016 NHL Draft.
A native of Bonney Lake, Washington, Gambrell played four AHL seasons with the Toronto Marlies and San Jose Barracuda from 2018-2024, appearing in 135 career games and recording 37-57-94 totals, 53 penalty minutes and 301 shots on goal. In 2023-24, he will appear in 66 games with the Marlies, recording 14-22-36 totals, 16 penalty minutes, four power play goals and 121 shots on goal.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound forward played collegiate hockey for the University of Denver (NCHC) from 2015-18, where he recorded 43-89-132 with 55 PIM in 120 games. He recorded 40 or more points in three seasons and helped the Pioneers win the NCAA Championship in 2017 as a sophomore. He also played for the Dubuque Fighting Saints of the USHL, where he recorded 39-69-108 in 172 games from 2012-15.
