EA College Football 25 appears to be a huge success, both critically and likely financially. It would be a shock if it wasn't the best-selling game released in July.
We'll have to wait for the numbers to confirm that, but we do know that the game has a Metacritic score of 88 on PlayStation 5. I reviewed it here .
Recently, EA announced plans for post-launch updates that will eventually affect all features of the game.
The breakdown of aspects covered is as follows:
Improving roster and similarity accuracy
According to EA, some team rosters have inaccuracies and need to have multiple portraits updated. With so many players in the game, such issues are to be expected. It will be interesting to see how far teams go in correcting the portraits of players across the country.
I was curious to see if there would be any roster updates, and EA confirmed that the first updates will come around the start of the college football season, which begins on August 24th.
That's a long time, and many of us may have played two or three seasons of dynasty mode by then, but it's still good to see the roster updated.
Another question I had was whether players' ratings would go up or down, something EA confirmed in a recent user memo.
This is great news as it makes the product even more lifelike and relevant to real-life sports.
Presentation corrections
The team at EA is aware that some schools have incorrect commentary or missing chants, and this is something EA is monitoring, but it's unclear when all these issues will be fixed.
All fixes will likely be part of the season kickoff patch.
Dynasty mode is the mode that's causing the most issues for some users: while it's definitely possible to play offline, many users are having issues joining or setting up online dynasties.
Within dynasties, the logic of the super sims needs some tweaking. Too many Cinderella teams have made it to the national championship. I watched Fresno State vs. Washington in the national championship in one of my sims.
EA has announced immediate plans to address these issues: The fix should resolve the issue of users joining Online Dynasties, but the comments section of EA's blog has reported more issues since the fix was rolled out.
Road to Glory Check-In and Patch Outlook
Road to Glory is the game with the least amount of criticism and complaints. Users mainly find it difficult to succeed as a quarterback, especially if you're playing as a two-star athlete.
I will admit that that part of the game is difficult, but I embrace the challenge, logging some pretty awful games in my collegiate career.
Stay tuned for more information on the upcoming fixes, as well as a full patch note breakdown, once they're released.
