Trinidad and Tobago's martial arts team, the Blackhawks, emerged with two grand champions at the 6th Guyana South American Undiscovered Martial Arts Championship held in Guyana on March 31st, winning in over 30 categories at the competition. and left a footprint.
More than 150 martial artists from the age of five from Guyana, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago put their fighting skills to the test during the one-day competition held at the National Gymnasium in Georgetown.
The Blackhawks were joined by Trinidad and Tobago's compatriot Mike's Martial Arts Academy in the tournament, along with one team from Suriname and four teams representing Guyana.
The Blackhawks team dominated the day's competition with a total of 86 podium finishes at the event, including 35 first-place finishes and 32 second-place finishes in various categories such as Karate Kata, Team Kata, and more. Weapon types, individual and team sparring.
Under the guidance of head coach and grandmaster Christopher Francis, 6-year-old Febault Public Elementary School student Julien Harris emerged as one of the tournament's grand champions, alongside 13-year-old blue belt David. , showed promise for the future. Mike's Martial Arts Academy teamed up with Ryudan Dojo to form a nine-member team for the competition. Their joint effort was led by Shuzel Carton, who won her two gold medals in the women's senior division.
Kimaya Ashton, Makai Hinkson, Sachin Kallicharan and Emmanuel Walker were also gold medalists from Mike's Martial Arts and Ryudan Dojo.
