Bellator MMA officially returns tomorrow afternoon (Friday, March 22, 2024) to begin the rebranded “Champions Series” inside the SSE Arena in Belfast, Northern Ireland, live streaming on Max be done. The highlight of the event will be a fight for the vacant light heavyweight title. corey anderson receive a battle carl mooreAlthough he is a featherweight champion, patricio pitbullwearing a 145-pound belt jeremy kennedy as a co-headlining act.
Further actions include: Fabian Edwards Will start another middleweight championship fight when he fights aaron jeffreymeanwhile james gallagher Fight Leandro Higo in an important featherweight bout.
corey anderson versus carl moore
Anderson knows he's hoping the third time will be the charm after falling just short in his last three attempts to win the 205-pound title. Vadim Nemkov was the only man to participate in “overtime” for Bellator's gold medal. Now that the Russian grappler has moved up to heavyweight, Anderson has one less obstacle to worry about. However, the path to gold won't necessarily be easy as he will be facing a man who has yet to suffer a loss under the Bellator banner. In fact, Moore is 4-0 in the promotion. Of his 12 wins, seven have been finishes, five by submission and two by knockout. Anderson has a much better finishing history. Eight of those were by strikes without submissions. So this is truly a clash of styles as Anderson looks to keep it that way while Moore looks to bring it into a Jiu-Jitsu match when the opportunity arises. But as hot as Moore is, it's Anderson's time to shine, and I don't think he'll be able to pull off a third title win.
Prediction: Anderson wins by TKO in the second round
Champion Patricio Pitbull vs. Jeremy Kennedy
Pitbull was left high and dry by two different opponents at the Bellator vs. PFL “Champion vs. Champion” event a few weeks ago, but now the Brazilian bomber will finally be fighting for the first time in 2024. You will be able to enjoy the action. Pitbull is currently finding himself. He has a rare two-game losing streak, losing to Sergio Pettis in a bantamweight title fight at Bellator 297, before losing to Chihiro Suzuki by devastating knockout in a last-minute fight (watch it again here). This will be his second title defense since retaking the belt from AJ McKee in April 2022, and he has a chance to bounce back in a big way. As for Kennedy, his three-fight winning streak puts him at 4-1 overall. Bellator banner. The former PFL veteran is 4-1 overall under the Bellator banner with wins over Pedro Carvalho and Aaron Pico. Pitbull has to bounce back here. Because if he loses three straight while throwing up the belt, in the process the chatter around the water cooler will determine his future status and whether his best days are behind him. I don't believe they are, but he will prove it by retaining the belt in a hard fought fight.
Prediction: Pitbull by unanimous decision.
Fabian Edwards versus aaron jeffrey
Fabian Edwards narrowly missed out in his first major world title fight, losing by knockout to current middleweight champion Johnny Eblen in the third round of their bout at Bellator 299 (relief here). Now, the brawling Englishman is back on the road for revenge against Aaron Jeffery, who is 3-1 in the promotion. After losing to John Salter, Jeffery bounced back in style by defeating Dalton Rosta. The well-traveled veteran has a great chance to join the championship haters by defeating Edwards, but his opponent will come hungry and motivated, so hitting him will be a tall order. That's not to say Jeffery won't be, but Edwards has a slightly more complete arsenal and will be back in the winner's circle.
Prediction: Edwards by unanimous decision.
Tim Wilde versus Manoel Souza
Wilde stumbled out of Bellator's gates, losing to former champion Brent Primus in his promotional debut. But since then, he has improved his record to 5-0-1 and slowly but surely he is climbing the 155-pound ladder. He will welcome undefeated championship favorite Manoel Souza to the big leagues. He won his fight at the PFL Challenger Series 2023, the only fight in which the judges' scorecards were displayed. Before that, he killed all nine of his opponents, six of them by attack, and submitted three of his opponents. The 26-year-old Brazilian is an exciting prospect with a huge chance of making the right impression. Unfortunately for “Manumito”, Wilde is likewise going to be a little crazy here, as he has a lot of experience and ultimately proves to be too much.
Prediction: Wild via unanimous decision.
james gallagher versus Leandro Higo
James Gallagher was expected to be a big star in Bellator, but the brash Irishman failed to live up to the high expectations. After being knocked out in memorable fashion by Ricky Bandejas (see here), he bounced back and won four straight, before running into and suffocating current bantamweight champion Patchy Mix in the third round of Bellator 270. Ta. Although he returned to the winner's circle with a close split decision win over Justin Gonzalez, the fact remains that 'Stravanimal' hasn't been able to capture as much of the spotlight as most expected. That said, he has proven he has the skills to get the job done and has a chance to build on his momentum when he faces his long-time veteran Leandro Higo. “Pitbull” is 4-1 in his last five fights en route to promotion, with his only loss coming in the quarterfinals of the Bantamweight Grand Prix against Danny Sabatello. This is a great matchup between two Jiu-Jitsu fighters with 22 submission wins (13 Higo, 9 Gallagher). So what does it mean? This battle is very likely to be an all-out war. Higo can get a little too hot at times, so I give Gallagher the edge there. We can't expect either fighter to finish here, so it will come down to who can pick up the pace a little more and sway the judges.
Prediction: Gallagher by unanimous decision.
