“The best boxer in MMA,” Muhammad declared.
The debate over who is the best boxer in the UFC has intensified in recent years ever since Max Holloway declared for the title in his bout against Calvin Kattar, with two other names often mentioned in this discussion: Ilia Topuria and Dustin Poirier.
Muhammad, who used his vastly improved striking to defeat Edwards, feels he deserves to be recognized as one of the best boxers in the business and will likely finish in the top 10 of UFC's upcoming pound-for-pound rankings.
Muhammad earned the right to face Edwards in a title fight following a 10-fight winning streak that included recent wins over Gilbert Burns and Vicente Luque. His first bout with Edwards in 2021 was declared a no contest due to an accidental eye poke.
Muhammad's grappling has reached a new level since joining UFC Hall of Famer Khabib Nurmagomedov's gym, but he's also diversified his striking, as he showed in the rematch with Edwards.
Muhammad continues to develop at a dramatic pace and is a scary thought for any top title contender, but he is not lacking in confidence in any aspect of mixed martial arts.
