Napoli's former Serie A champion Victor Osimhen appears to be on the radar of Chelsea once again. Paris Saint-Germain are targeting the 25-year-old, but the English side are also known to be long-time fans.
Osimhen has become Europe's most desirable striker after helping Napoli win their first Scudetto in 33 years last season. The Nigerian striker has been a constant source of brilliance for the Azzurri since joining from Lille in 2020.
In his four years at Napoli, he amassed an impressive record, scoring 75 goals and assisting a further 18 goals. The club wasted no time in renewing his contract last December. However, the contract included a termination clause worth approximately $140 million.
Undying love for the Premier League in the conversation in France
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both reportedly targeting Osimhen in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Blues would like to add a talented striker like him to their attacking line-up. Meanwhile, the French giants are keen to sign him as a high-profile replacement following the departure of Kylian Mbappé.
Throughout his career, Osimhen has spoken of his admiration and desire to play in the Premier League. His admiration for Chelsea and Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba only reinforced this view.
However, he has gained enough experience in his one season with Lille, scoring 13 goals in 27 games before joining Serie A, so a return to France is still very likely.
Chelsea tests water first.
Chelsea are reportedly already planning a strategy to outbid PSG for Victor Osimhen as the summer transfer window approaches. Sky Italia's Gianluca Di Marzio said the London club are said to have approached Napoli with a contract offer.
It is very likely that the club will take advantage of the possibility of selling its most valuable asset. Especially to strengthen the team for next season. Apparently, the Italians see Osimhen's departure as an important opportunity to acquire vital funds to support their goals in the transfer market.
They also acquired a key asset in the Nigerian star, a talented player coveted by other elite teams. And the first prospective buyers have already started testing the waters. Chelsea have made contact with Napoli, which includes Romelu Lukaku and an unnamed young player, as part of a $97 million bid.
In the coming days, the Partenopei are likely to announce Giovanni Manna as their new sporting director. The report adds that Mana are eyeing the powerful Belgian striker and have previously tried to bring him to Juventus. Lukaku has yet to find his footing at Chelsea, but has attracted attention in Serie A with Inter Milan and Roma.
In 29 appearances for the Giallorossi this season, the 30-year-old has scored 11 goals and provided three assists in the Italian First Division. The Belgian also had an impressive record in the UEFA Europa League, with seven goals and one assist in 12 appearances. The 30-year-old also played two games for Roma in the Coppa Italia, scoring one goal.
