Baron Corbin, known for his tenacity in and out of the ring, has caused a stir with recent comments about his passion for martial arts.
Despite his contributions to WWE, Corbin's background as a former NFL player, Gold Glove boxer, and Jiu-Jitsu athlete speaks volumes about his multifaceted skill set and competitive nature.
During a conversation on The Johnny Dare Show, Corbin delved into the topic of the WWE-UFC merger, emphasizing how it would bring more legitimacy to the world of wrestling. When he was asked about his temptation to step into the Octagon, Corbin didn't mince words and expressed his strong desire to test his skills in martial arts once again. He revealed: “I’d love to get back in the Octagon and do something like that.” His recent forays into jiu-jitsu competitions and training sessions with UFC fighters were cited as evidence of his desire to compete at a high level.
Corbin spoke about the visceral experience of martial arts and acknowledged the appeal of getting punched in the face, saying: “There's something about getting punched in the face that makes you feel good.” He emphasized the mental strength required, saying: “You have to be mentally strong to keep going even when you get punched in the face.” Corbin spoke from his own experience wrestling with experienced black belts. “It's amazing what your body can experience.”
However, Corbin made a distinction between casual gym goers and true competitors, saying: “There is a difference between a gym rat and a competitor.” He emphasized the unique mindset and determination of those who step into the ring or the mat for a match, saying: “I’ll take that punch.”
Despite the physical and mental strain, Corbin finds solace and fulfillment in his pursuit of martial arts excellence.
Corbin, who currently plies his trade under the NXT brand with Bron Breaker, hasn't let the recent setback of losing the NXT Tag Team Titles dampen his fighting spirit. The WWE Universe can expect to see the best of Baron Corbin's relentless drive and passion as he continues to hone his craft and pursue his competitive ambitions.
