Baltimore Ravens free agent linebacker Tyus Bowser is still searching for a new team in the midst of free agency, but in the meantime, he's heading back to where it all began.
This weekend, Bowser returned to his hometown of Tyler, Texas to host his fifth youth football camp in Tyler. With more players hosting such camps, Bowser saw an opportunity to give back to his hometown.
“I'm from Tyler, Texas, and I just want to give back,” Bowser told CBS 19. “They've done so much for me and they're the reason I'm where I am, so I definitely want to give back.”
Bowser's camp is open to kids ages 8-17 and includes warm-ups, drills, 7-on-7 games, etc. Overall, it's a great way for kids to get active over the summer.
“I'm putting a lot more energy into it and trying to get as many people involved as possible and make it as easy and fun as possible for the kids,” Bowser said. “All they want is to have fun and move around. This is their summer and it's a time to get outside and have fun and do what they need to do.”
Bowser, 29, previously played at Tyler High School where he recorded 24 sacks as a senior. The three-star recruit then attended the University of Houston where he recorded 136 total tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss and 21.5 sacks over four seasons and was named to the All-AAC Second Team in 2016, his final season with the Cougars.
Baltimore selected Bowser in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft, and while he wasn't a star player, he was a solid part of the defense for several years, starting 23 of the 89 games he played in over six seasons and recording 152 total tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 19.5 sacks.
Unfortunately, Bowser has struggled with injuries over the past few years and missed all of last season due to a knee injury, which culminated in the Ravens waiving him this offseason.
