The Auburn Police Department receives financial assistance from the state.
Toward the end of 2023, the department applied for $122,500 through the New York State Law Enforcement Technology Grant. Chief James Slayton revealed at Thursday's City Council meeting that the department will receive the full amount and how the funds will be used.
“[The grant] This included number plate readers, mobile and fixed surveillance cameras, unmanned aerial vehicles, gunshot detection and smart detection devices for police officers, etc., said Mr Surayutton. “So we got together with our administrative team to look at what would benefit the residents of the city of Auburn, and we looked at some cameras from some systems and tried to add different cameras to the roadways. ” both inside and outside the city. ”
Slayton added that the grant is competitive and available to all police departments in the state. He also said that the grant program was initially allocated $50 million, but the governor increased that amount to $127 million.
The department plans to apply again next year.
