“We have some really special young men leading our golf program right now,” Butt added.
Butt also pointed to Burress' great start to his college baseball career. The College of Technology freshman center fielder had nine home runs and 20 RBIs in 10 games. The 5-foot-9, 182-pound Houston County High School graduate set a program record with four home runs in a game against Georgia State on Feb. 27 at Russ Chandler Stadium.
Butt made sure that board member and former Tech baseball legend Mark Teixeira, who attended Tuesday's meeting with Wardlaw, brought Barres' honor to attention.
Sticking to baseball, Butt reminded the board that Tech University baseball coach Danny Hall was named an honorary Tech graduate by the Georgia Tech Alumni Association in October. Mr. Hall was celebrated at the Gold and White Honors Gala in February.
Tech football will hold its annual spring scrimmage, the White and Gold Game, on April 13 at 1 p.m. Tech softball will host Louisville, Tech baseball will host Virginia Tech and the men's tennis team will also host Virginia that day. Butt said information will be released soon regarding the Tech Apparel Sale that will be held on campus that weekend.
Academics were also highlighted by Butt, who also noted Tech's graduation success rate after the fall semester was 92% and the average grade point average for all athletes during the fall semester was 3.14. In high-tech companies, 51% of athletes earn Dean's List or Faculty Honors.
Also provided was an update on the construction of the Thomas A. Fanning Student Athlete Performance Center, which will replace the existing Edge Athletics Center in a corner of Bobby Dodd Stadium. The Fanning Center is expected to be completed in spring 2026 without any anticipated concerns.
The next GTAA board meeting is scheduled for June 4th.
