Kennedy Glynn is a promising senior goalkeeper for the Trevians field hockey and an infielder for the Trevians softball.
1. Do you have any pre-game rituals or superstitions?
For softball, I usually keep my softball bag on the edge of the dugout, especially in New Trier, where there is a regular spot. For both sports, I keep my hair in a braid no matter what.
2. Do you have any plans after high school?
I recently decided to enroll at Bates College (Lewiston, Maine) to play field hockey, but I would also like to join the softball team, and have talked to the coach a few times so that will probably happen.
3. Why Bates?
I always wanted to get a liberal arts education because the academics are great and the school is small. I love the idea of going to a small school and having a community that you can really get close to. Coach (Dani) Kogut, the field hockey coach, really made you feel her love and passion for the program. I wanted to go to a school where everyone wants to win.
4. Field hockey or softball?
Everyone asks me that question. I don't have a favorite sport. They both gave me so much. I grew up playing softball and didn't start playing field hockey until the summer into my freshman year of college. I was on two different teams and they were both filled with people I loved. It would be impossible to choose one sport over the other.
5. When did you first become interested in field hockey?
My freshman year, I was just doing it for fun. I wasn't really taking it too seriously, but then that summer as a sophomore, I really got into it and realized how much fun I was having. I love the intensity of being a goalie, I love taking a lot of shots. It's something I really grew to love as a sophomore.
6. What is your dream job?
I really want to go to medical school and become a doctor, probably a pediatrician. I've always loved science and science classes and I want to have a job where I can help people.
7. What is your favorite thing to do in your free time?
I love going to the beach with friends, reading a good book, just hanging out with friends. I'm a pretty social person.
8. If you had a few dollars at Walgreens, what would you buy?
Probably Oreos, gum and Vitamin Water. I love Vitamin Water. I like the pink one.
9. What's something people don't know about you?
I grew up in Miami and moved here when I was in the seventh grade, and one of the reasons field hockey was so new to me is because it wasn't all that popular in Miami.
10. What do you hope to achieve in your final year?
We definitely want to get the (field hockey) state championship back. (New Trier's streak of four straight state championships ended with a runner-up finish in 2023.) That's definitely the No. 1 goal for all of us. I want to provide leadership. Being in the backfield, it's my job to control that. … We'll be a new team, so some people will say we're a much younger, less experienced team, but we're just looking to get the state championship back. We have a lot of underclassmen, so I want to provide leadership, bring intensity and win a state title.
