A local artist suggested the name, inspired by one of the B-52's most popular songs. It topped the classic City Panic, which was inspired by another Athens band, Widespread Panic.
“Rock Lobsterz” won by 565 votes.
“From the beginning, we knew we wanted a name that captured the unique energy and spirit of Athens,” said Rock Lobster's Marketing Director Britton Briley. “The response from the community has been incredible. The team plans to unveil a new logo and merchandise in the near future. According to an Athens Professional Hockey news release, the team is working on a concept in which a cheerful lobster character holding an electric guitar cleverly transforms into a hockey stick, symbolizing the unique fusion of music and sports that characterizes the team.
