An assault lawsuit against Calvin Ford, the boxing coach of Baltimore native Gervonta Davis, was dismissed by a Nevada judge on Tuesday.
Ford, 58, is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon., However, the lawsuit was dismissed.
The trial stems from a February 2023 incident in which Ford allegedly threatened the two men. The Baltimore Sun previously reported that the two men said they were hired by Ford to transport a 2021 Cadillac Escalade from Baltimore to Las Vegas for $2,000. A Las Vegas lawyer representing Ford and the Clark County District Attorney's Office did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday. Prosecutors previously had to contact a Russian translator to locate witnesses, according to court records.
According to the indictment, Ford told the men he would not pay the full amount because the car was damaged during shipping, and after some back and forth, Ford offered to pay a partial amount, but the men rejected the offer.
“Ford then pulled up his shirt to reveal a black firearm and stated, 'You don't want any trouble, I don't want any trouble, get out of here before I kill you,'” the indictment states.
Police say surveillance video shows Ford taking the vehicle and speaking with the men.
Ford was released on bail and pleaded not guilty. He sat in Gervonta Davis' corner during his bout against Frank Martin on June 15 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
