Top Rank promoter Bob Arum predicts Tyson Fury will beat unbeaten heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk in a rematch later this year, followed by a “huge fight” against Anthony Joshua at London's Wembley Stadium in 2025.
Arum confirmed today that Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs), who lost his WBC title last weekend, has officially booked a bout with Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) for their next fight later this year. He did not say when that would be, but there has been talk of the two fighting in October.
Fury lost a 12-round split decision to Usyk in a bout to determine the undefeated heavyweight champion last Saturday night at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Most fans agree that Usyk missed out on a knockout in the ninth round after landing 20 consecutive head shots on Fury, causing Fury to fall against the ropes multiple times and become completely unconscious.
The referee gave Fury a standing eight count, which fans interpreted as an attempt by the referee to save Fury from being nearly knocked out by Usyk.
It was unsettling to watch as the referee clearly made some incorrect calls that negatively impacted the outcome of the fight, and because a different referee will be in charge for the Fury vs. Usyk rematch, it's highly unlikely that a standing eight count will be given again if Tyson finds himself in trouble again.
Tyson will win the rematch [with Oleksandr Usyk] And fight [Anthony Joshua] “Sometime next year, at Wembley Stadium. It'll be another massive fight,” Top Rank promoter Bob Arum told talkSPORT Boxing, predicting Tyson Fury would win the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk and then fight Anthony Joshua.
That may be wishful thinking on Arum's part. He believes Fury will beat Usyk in the rematch. Usyk is likely to have the upper hand and, barring something strange happening, there's a good chance he'll finish what he started in the ninth round with an early knockout.
