The Arizona State University football team will return to the North's legendary Camp Tontozona from August 7-10 ahead of the season.
This will be Arizona State's second consecutive year traveling to the highlands northeast of Payson after COVID-19, inclement weather and other issues prevented the team from traveling for the three years from 2020-2022.
“We had a great experience last year so we decided to add an extra day this year. It's a lot of fun and our team loves it,” head coach Kenny Dillingham said in a press release. “It's a great tradition that we cherish.”
Dillingham said he will revive the tradition as soon as he is hired in 2023, and his team is ready to make the trip again ahead of his sophomore season.
Longtime head coach Frank Kush first started the Camp T tradition in 1959. The camp gives players the opportunity to develop strong team bonds with one another while experiencing a lush, pine forested environment.
Details regarding practice times and availability have yet to be finalized. The week will conclude with a practice that is open to the public on Saturday, August 10.
Three weeks later, Arizona State will open its season against the University of Wyoming at Mountain America Stadium on Aug. 31. This will also mark a new beginning for Arizona State as it marks its first school year in the Big 12 Conference.
