New signature sneaker lines are popping up all over the NBA, but none have created a buzz in the footwear world quite like the Adidas AE 1. Its noisy debut has regularly made headlines and left athletes and fans excited about the model.
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards and adidas came up with everything from futuristic designs to colorways to a bold marketing campaign that reached out to other NBA players.
It also doesn't hurt that Edwards backed that up in his first year on the court, averaging around 26 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game.
As the Timberwolves prepare for the NBA playoffs, Edwards officially unveiled a low-top version of his first signature sneaker. On Saturday morning, fans got their first look at Edwards in the Adidas AE 1 Low in a 30-second video spot.
Sitting next to his friend Sac, Edwards pulls down the top of his convertible and laces up a pair of never-before-seen pink Adidas AE 1 Lows. When asked how he expected them to catch up, Edwards replied, “I don't think so.”
Sack nailed his exit from the commercial by saying, “The stakes are high, the shoes are low. Trust me on that.”
At this time, there is no official release date or price for the adidas AE 1 Low. But it's very possible that Edwards will debut the low-top model this afternoon when the Timberwolves host the Phoenix Suns in Game 1 of the Western Conference playoffs.
No doubt more stories will unfold throughout the NBA playoffs. Stay tuned to Sports Illustrated. Fun Nation Kick We bring you all the sneaker news from the NBA and the rest of the sports world.
