Andrew Wiggins will not represent his country at this summer's Paris Olympics.
Wiggins' decision not to play for Canada was mutual between him and the Warriors, and Anthony Slater of The Athletic reported Friday morning that it was a medical decision.
Wiggins suffered an ankle injury during the final week of the 2023-24 NBA regular season, during which he missed two games.
Slater's report came in response to another report by Doug Smith, citing sources, that suggested Golden State was taking a “hard line” on Wiggins and that the team was “looking to move the veteran forward.”
Wiggins has been involved in several trade rumors this offseason as the Warriors look to bounce back from a struggling 2023-24 season and return to championship contention.
Slater acknowledged the Warriors could still trade the 29-year-old All-Star, but made it clear that's not the reason he's playing for Canada's national team.
