Melville's Ana Penagos has been named the 2023 Women's Competitive Coach of the Year by the Eastern New York State Youth Soccer Association. Penagos has been a coach for nearly nine years, and she coached the Merrick Pumas U-12 team in the Long Island Junior Soccer League for three years. During her tenure, the team was promoted from Division 2 to the Premier League and also won the Long Island Cup. She also coaches the Merrick Spartans U-13 team and the Merrick Cyclones U-11 team, and also works for the soccer development organization Copper Soccer.
