For the Marines stationed at MCAS-Yuma, the adage “train like you fight” is more than just a saying, it's a way of life.
In this episode, we meet a Yuma Marine at the base who is honing the most important and deadly weapon at his disposal: his body.
And as steel sharpens steel, so do Marines and Marines. Fight in the gravel pit during the “Super Sentai” event.
We spoke to Sergeant Billy McNair, who was a judge at the grappling competition. He is an expert in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program called “MCMAP”.
In Super Sentai, enlisted Marines representing most of the units stationed at the Yuma base compete in sporting events such as grappling, weightlifting, jousting, and pulling a Humvee on a rope.
Points were awarded to the winning units in each category. Units will compete for points at other events throughout the year in hopes of winning the Super Squadron Trophy prior to the annual Marine Corps Ball on Nov. 10.
We also met Lexi Moncada, a Yuma area resident who is just beginning her mixed martial arts career. Lexi's first public fight was witnessed by hundreds of Marines during an MMA fight night at the Yuma base.
The episode ends with an interview with legendary UFC fighter Miesha Tate. He offered wisdom to the up-and-coming Moncada.
