He supported Mike Tyson to defeat Jake Paul
Amir Khan has called for Jake Paul to quit boxing, claiming he is ruining the sport.
Paul is confident going into the fight against Mike Tyson in Texas on July 20th, which will be broadcast on Netflix.
By the time the fight began, Tyson had just turned 58 and Paul was 27, the largest age difference in professional boxing history.
Tyson is also a favorite to win the bout, and Khan is among those supporting the former heavyweight champion, claiming Paul disrespected the boxing legend.
He told JOE: I just saw you talking about Jake Paul on social media. [and] The Mike Tyson fight was a little disrespectful.
“Jake Paul is bringing in a different audience and you have to remember that the people who are following him think Mike Tyson is over the hill.
“One member of the press asked, 'Why are you up there fighting everybody?'” Knowing that Mike Tyson, 65, would still crush Jake Paul, that's I felt it was very disrespectful. ”
Khan, who is in Saudi Arabia ahead of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk fight, went on to criticize the current state of influencer boxing and called for it to be completely banned.
“I feel like the people coming into boxing now are just ruining the sport.
“All these influencers are making boxing look bad. How come guys like Jake Paul, who's never even had a title fight, are saying he's 'picking the easy fights,' so why are they on the mic?” -I wonder why a legend like Tyson is so despised.
“What they are doing is crazy and social media boxing or what they call it needs to be banned.”
