Some observers are concerned about his mental state
Garcia's tablemates included soccer superstars Neymar and Dan Brezerian, fellow boxer Chris Eubank Jr. and NBA star Jimmy Butler. Videos circulating on social media show Garcia's antics during the match, including downing alcoholic drinks and eating snacks during his turn, yelling “I'm not good” after landing a move and even making obscene gestures toward the table.
At one point, he humorously demonstrated his lightning-fast hand speed while shadow boxing.
Garcia assured fans that he was “feeling great” and having a great time despite his antics. However, his behavior left many fans confused and concerned. One viewer commented, “Living his best life but he needs to stop drinking,” while another commented, “What is he doing? Jimmy Butler wants nothing to do with him.”
Chris Eubank Jr., who got his revenge on Liam Smith last year, is currently a free agent waiting for his next fight. Eubank has been embroiled in a feud with Connor Benn since the fight was canceled. Six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler plays as a small forward for the Miami Heat.
Garcia's actions drew attention, especially given his recent suspension and the resulting questions about his focus and discipline, but the young boxer later claimed his actions were just a facade.
Ryan Garcia banned from boxing for one year after failing drug test
Ryan Garcia has been banned from boxing for one year by the New York State Athletic Commission after testing positive for a banned substance. The 25-year-old boxer tested positive for Ostarine in two pre-fight tests prior to his bout with Devin Haney on April 20. As a result, Garcia's win over Haney will be declared a no contest, meaning Haney's unbeaten streak will be reinstated.
In addition to the suspension, Garcia will forfeit his $1.2 million signing bonus from the Haney fight and must pay a $10,000 fine. The New York State Athletic Commission confirmed that Garcia will be suspended until April 20, 2025. Garcia will have to provide a negative urine test before his license will be reissued.
Garcia has maintained his innocence and blamed his positive test on multiple supplements. Haney has demanded a rematch and has indicated he will wait until Garcia has served his suspension before returning to boxing.
