Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, who was sidelined in the aftermath of a disastrous first round at UFC 300 earlier this month, insists his fighting future is not directly in his hands behind the event. However, he has not ruled out a return in July, as he will fight Tom Aspinall for interim heavyweight gold at UFC 304.
Pereira, a former middleweight champion and current pacesetter in the light heavyweight division, faced former champion Jamahal Hill in the UFC 300 headliner last weekend, defeating the Illinois native with a first-round knockout. It was a comfortable victory.
And immediately after his win, Pereira, the Sao Paulo favorite, echoed calls for a potential return at UFC 301 in just three weeks in his native Brazil, potentially making his debut in the heavyweight division.
However, it was revealed that he had broken his second toe in the first round of his fight with Hill, and Pereira, who had fractured his other toe prior to his appearance at UFC 300, was ultimately forced to return to Rio de Janeiro. I was not able to admit.
Alex Pereira considering participating in UFC 304
Pereira rejected an offer to face Russian contestant Magomed Ankalaev at October's UFC 308, citing a desire to make a fast-track comeback after returning unscathed from his fight with Hill. He explored the option of facing British heavyweight star Aspinall.
“You have to think about what’s best for you, and I’m not alone,” Alex Pereira told MMA Fighting about the possibility of facing Tom Aspinall in June. “The manager is with me too. I'm here, like a gamecock. If you put another cock in front of me, I'm there to fight, and we fight Do you know?”
“But I have to think about what's best for me, my career and my team,” explained Alex Pereira. “I'm open to fighting anyone, but it's not up to me to decide.”
Aspinall, from Atherton, has confirmed that the promotion will return to the UK for a pay-per-view event in Manchester at the end of July, and that he intends to fight at UFC 304 on his return and is keen to see his opponent get inked. Conditions regarding the collision also revealed that they are just waiting.
