With just a week to go until the release of EA's College Football 25 video game, it's safe to say that excitement is at an all-time high for sports fans. EA has been revealing finer details about the video game in the weeks leading up to its release, and each new tidbit only heightens the anticipation for what may be the greatest sports video game ever made.
EA released a video on Monday featuring cover athlete Donovan Edwards playing the game for the first time, and the 21-minute video revealed more details about the game, including evaluations of Edwards and quarterback Alex Orji.
Donovan Edwards
Edwards received an overall rating of 91, including 92 speed, 94 ball-carrying vision and 85 tackle-breaking ability. Those all seem like solid grades for a player expected to be one of the top running backs in college football in 2024.
Edwards, who became the fourth Wolverine to grace the cover of EA's college football game, finally got the chance to serve as RB1 in Ann Arbor following the departure of Blake Collum to the NFL. But even in a supporting role for his first three seasons, Edwards found a way to make a big splash. During the 2022 season, he finished the year with 991 yards and seven touchdowns on 140 attempts. He had a dominant performance against Ohio State, finishing the afternoon with 216 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. Edwards followed that win with another impressive performance in the 2022 B10 Championship Game, where he was named MVP.
Alex Orji
University of Michigan quarterback Alex Orji will enter the 2024 season as a total unknown for the Wolverines this fall, at least to fans. While he played a key role in the offensive line in 2023, he didn't give it his all as a rusher, finishing the season with 85 yards and one touchdown on 15 attempts.
The biggest question mark for Orji is whether he can get the ball through the air on the field consistently (and accurately) enough to solidify his QB1 status in 2024. His EA ranking is 78 overall, including 91 speed, 93 throwing power, and 78 play-action. As a fan, I'd like to say his overall rating is too low, but given how little we know about Orji as a passer at this point, the rating seems fair.
