WBO super featherweight 1st place albert bell (26 wins, 0 losses, 9 KOs) Won by KO in the first round Jonathan Romero (35 wins, 3 losses, 19 KOs) tonight at the Glass City Center in Toledo, Ohio.
Romero entered the scheduled 10-round main event after suffering a third-round knockout loss to Abraham Nova in Las Vegas last July. All three of the Colombians' losses were due to substitute appearances. Bell picked up his third straight early victory in a highlight-reel knockout tonight in his hometown.
For the first 90 seconds, neither man threw much of a punch until Romero pinned Bell against the ropes. It would be the beginning of the end of a short night when Bell snapped back with a smart combination to the body after being attacked by Romero. Romero briefly reverted to attacking on his back foot, but would fire a three-punch combination that was easily avoided.
Bell landed a right hand to the body followed by a right uppercut, forcing Romero to cover. He will coerce Romero into defensive mode with more body shots. He then sent Romero into the corner with another body shot and then landed a nice overhand right to end the fight. Amid the applause of Toledo's home crowd, Romero fell flat on his face as the referee ended the match with a no-count at the 2:20 mark.
Bell is on track to challenge Emmanuel Navarrete for the WBO super featherweight title, with Navarrete moving up to lightweight to challenge Dennis Belinczyk for the WBO lightweight title in May.
