ALBANY, Ga. (WALB) – Albany State University (ASU) Athletics has announced a rescheduling of its home football season opener against Shaw University. The game, originally scheduled for September 5, will now be held at Albany State University on September 7, 2024. There will be no change to the time, kickoff will be at 6pm.
The reason for the change is due to schedule changes for various programs due to the loss of sponsorship for the 2024 season. At Shaw University's request, ASU agreed to the change.
“As members of the HBCU community, it is important that we support each other in times of need.” Director of Athletics Dr. Kristin Kelly said. “We are pleased to accommodate Shaw University’s request and look forward to hosting the Bears on September 7th.”
Head coach Quinn Gray also expressed support for the need for changes to the university's schedule, saying: “We're ready to take the field on September 7th and show what Albany State football is all about. #MoveTheNeedle.”.
