Macau boxing recently achieved its best result ever with three boxers winning gold medals at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tri-City Boxing Championships held in Shenzhen, China.
Macau sent a total of six boxers to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Tri-City Boxing Championships, where teams from Macau, Hong Kong and the Chinese city of Shenzhen competed for medals and prizes.
14-year-old Lei Chi Ching from Macau is one of the brightest prospects in women's boxing and stunned her rivals at the tournament. The new pride of Macau defeated Chuang Mengxi of Shenzhen in the women's 35kg category, with the final decided in the second round.
Macau's Dennis Wong won the junior light welterweight (63kg) and dominated his final against Shenzhen's Lee Wa Ge, with the referee stopping the bout after the first round. The 16-year-old talent landed the more powerful punches in the opening bout of the final, proving he has great potential for the future in the sport.
Cheung Ching Chung won his first round bout against Shenzhen's Wang Bo Un in the youth lightweight (60kg) to give Macau its third gold medal of the tournament. Cheung was on a roll early in the second round when the ringside doctor called off the bout due to an injury to the Chinese boxer.
The inaugural season of the Macau Open Boxing Championships will kick off on July 28th during the Paris Olympic Games. Hong Kong, China and Macau will participate in the tournament, and a national-level referee and judges seminar is also included in the official schedule during the Macau Open Boxing Championships.
Macau is set to send an elite team to the upcoming ASBC Asian Elite Boxing Championships and ahead of the tournament, Macau boxers will take part in a training camp in Guangzhou, China in September.
