Lake Travis defensive end Gus Cordova is considered one of the top edge rushers in the Austin area and has committed to play football at USC.
“USC NATION IM (sic) HOME!!” Cordova posted on X Sunday night.
Cordova, a three-star prospect, was one of four recruits to commit to the University of Southern California on Sunday. The 6-foot-5, 255-pound lineman chose the Trojans over 40 other offers, including Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Baylor, Florida, LSU and Washington. He is one of three defensive linemen in USC's 2025 class and is the Trojans' only three-star recruit thus far.
According to published reports, Texas offered Cordova a scholarship on Jan. 24, but withdrew the offer in February. This comes after two former Longhorns, running back Jonathan Brooks and wide receiver Xavier Worthy, posted on social media about an incident that occurred in Cordova in October 2023. A Lake Travis teammate also put peanuts in the football equipment of another teammate who has a severe peanut allergy.
Cordoba and his opponent were suspended for two games. The Lake Travis School District later determined the incident was not bullying. Offensive lineman Carter Mannone, a player who suffered from a peanut allergy, has since transferred to Vandegrift.
Cordova contributed to the Cavaliers' defense as a junior, recording 65 tackles, five for loss of yards and two sacks. As a sophomore, he contributed 59 tackles, three of which were for loss of yards.
