Tim Tzu will earn a career-high $10 million when he defends his WBO junior middleweight belt title against Sebastian Fundora on Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The Australian Associated Press reported that the 29-year-old Tszyu (24-0, 17 KOs) will earn $10 million in prize money. [AU $15.million] This Saturday, he will compete against his replacement opponent Fundora (20-1-1, 13 KOs) at Prime PPV on March 30th.
Higher paydays could follow.
If he wins against Fundora, Tszyu could potentially face undefeated superstar Terrence Crawford next. Crawford is required by the World Boxing Organization to compete for the WBO 154-pound belt held by Tszyu. Tszyu will reportedly earn an additional $10 million [$15.3 million] For that fight.
If Tszyu wins the fight with Crawford, there will be endless dough for him to gain in future fights. Tszyu will command a super-sized paycheck if he takes on Canelo Alvarez.
Let's start with Tszyu. He will have to defeat Fundora, a strong 6-foot-5-incher who has good punching power and is also tall. Fundora's only loss came against Brian Mendoza, whom he had won last April.
Tszyu is confident heading into the Fundora Challenge
Tszyu realized for himself when he won a 12-round decision in Australia last October, when he was knocked out by Mendoza, a slugger with tremendous power, after an unexpected shot in the seventh round. .
“I'm not the one to be afraid of,” Tszyu said. “he [Fundora] You must be afraid of me. That's the difference. No matter what happens, nothing will stop me. In my opinion, we live in a different time. We live in an era of Twitter battles, not fighter jets.
“So I hope I can inspire more boxes. I saved the show, T-Mobile Arena, all of this,” Tszyu said.
Tim cannot afford to ignore the threat from Fundora. If he mistakenly believes this is going to be an easy fight for him, he could end up having a long night just like Eriksson Rubin lost.
