Lubbock, Texas — Evelyn Smith, President Technologicalize votingsaid the reason she helped found the organization in October 2023 was because she and others saw a need at Texas Tech University.
“I realized there was no student organization on campus to support students and participate in the political process,” she said.
Smith told Everythinglubock.com that the group's mission is to educate and involve students in the voting process.
“We try to provide information about upcoming elections, times to meet people, etc.,” Smith explained. “Students are also registered to vote if they wish.”
Smith said many students teach that voting can sometimes be scary.
“They feel like they're not being heard when they vote and they don't know enough about politics to vote. So that's what we're trying to break down on campus. There's a certain stigma attached to it,” Smith said.
But Smith said the group wants its fellow Red Raiders to be not just registered voters, but also informed voters. Technologicalize voting Smith is nonpartisan and teaches students about the world of politics through social media, events and interactions on campus, Smith said.
“We try to simplify the content very much for students and make it feel easy and easy to understand,” she said.
But most importantly, Smith told Everythinglubock.com: Technologicalize voting.”'s overarching goal is to make young voters feel as involved in the political process that affects them as everyone else.
“Voting is a great power that we have, and it’s fun just to be educated and participate,” Smith said. “It's easy and helpful for everyone.”
Technologicalize voting will host a mayoral candidate forum on April 3 at Texas Tech University School of Law. A voter drive will also be held on April 4 in the university's free speech area. More information on both events can be found here.
