Women from Mason and surrounding areas had the opportunity to learn self-defense from instructor Jon Stewart Thursday night at Mason Elementary School.
Proceeds from the event, sponsored by the Bedford Martial Arts Academy and the Bedford Police Department, will be donated to Jasmine Grace Outreach, an organization that supports women who are victims of drug addiction and sex trafficking in the greater Boston area. Ta.
Mr. Stewart, owner of Bedford Martial Arts, learned some basic self-defense techniques based on common attacks from the arms, neck and back.
Mason Police Department Administrative Assistant Linda Hernandez, who helped organize the event, said the session was just the first in a series of community support programs planned between the department and other local businesses. . After attending an event hosted by Jasmine Grace Outreach, Hernandez thought a women's self-defense class would be a great way to start an outreach effort and raise money for an important cause.
