Texas now knows its 2025 football opponent following an announcement this week. Somehow, the Longhorns were able to get a favorable schedule from the new league for the second year in a row.
Head coach Steve Sarkisian's team drew the same conference opponent it drew in 2024. The only difference is where the match will be played. Texas will play at home against Arkansas, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt. Texas' road schedule with Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, and Mississippi State. The neutral-field game against Oklahoma in Dallas will count as a home game.
It's not an easy schedule. Texas will play Ohio State in non-conference play, then play Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas A&M in the SEC.
Texas will face two of the hottest teams in 2024 in Ohio State and Georgia. Some might expect them to be a top-10 team next season. But for the first two seasons of the SEC's new conference, the Longhorns will avoid playing Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Missouri, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
Keeping the College Football Playoff on schedule with Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M is certainly a challenge. Texas doesn't need to beat Ohio State or Georgia, but it will need to beat everything else. The rest of the SEC gives them a chance.
Obviously, Texas will need to reload next offseason to compete nationally. Nevertheless, the team should be excited about what SEC opponents they will face in 2025.
