Although Campbell got off to a strong start, he faltered after two rounds and was beaten by the more technical Flint. The scores were 98-92, 97-94, 97-95.
By the sixth round, Flint picked on a tired-looking Cam, nailing him with uppercuts, straight rights, and straight lefts. Although Flint changed stances frequently, he found success in each stance. His left hand was almost as effective as his right hand, and Hatton couldn't miss, firing punches.[belloffnailinghimwithuppercutsstraightrightsandleftsFlintfrequentlychangedstancesbutfoundsuccessregardlessofwhichstanceHislefthandwasalmostaseffectiveashisrightandhecouldn'tmissHattonmarchingintohispunches[belloffnailinghimwithuppercutsstraightrightsandleftsFlintfrequentlychangedstancesbutfoundsuccessregardlessofwhichstanceHislefthandwasalmostaseffectiveashisrightandhecouldn’tmissHattonmarchingintohispunches
Hutton reflects on losses
“I thought he was pretty good in the early rounds, but he got stronger in the second half. I think I did enough, there's no argument. Hats off to Jimmy Joe. I want to think that I was able to prove that I am not just a silver spoon, but that I can make a difference,'' said Campbell Hutton after the match.
Campbell is getting a little carried away by the comments about him winning in the early rounds. He fought well enough to win the first and fifth rounds, but everything else was flint.
After the match, promoter Eddie Hearn said he wanted to set up a rematch between Campbell and Flint. That might not be a good idea for Hatton. Because he's not good enough right now for a rematch to be any different than tonight.
Flint came close to stopping Hatton in the 8th and 10th rounds tonight, so he might KO Hatton in the rematch.
celebrity pressure
Campbell's loss shows how difficult it is for sons of famous athletes to replicate their father's success. Unfortunately, Campbell doesn't have the punching power of his father, Ricky Hatton, and may not be cut out to compete at a high level.
