2024 Korea Olympic Trials
South Korea successfully completed the second day of the Olympic trials, with several athletes booking tickets to this summer's Paris Games.
The top two finishers at these trials will qualify for Paris if they meet or beat the World Aquatics Olympic qualification time. However, the Korean Swimming Federation (KSF) High Performance Committee has announced that even if the winner here finishes with a slower time than the OQT, it will already be valid within the period (March 1, 2023 to June 23, 2024). It was decided that if an athlete has achieved a certain amount of time, he or she will be suspended. / She still qualifies for the Olympics.
Continuing the momentum of yesterday's heat, Kim Min Seop He set a new Japanese record on his way to winning the gold medal in the men's 200m butterfly.
Tonight, Kim broke the 1:55 barrier for the first time with a 1:54.95 victory.
His performance was better than the 1:55.45 he recorded yesterday and earned him the top seed. This lowered his previous benchmark of 1:55.95, set in November 2022.
Kim's result of 1 minute 54.95 seconds was lower than her World Aquatics Olympic qualifying time of 1 minute 55.78 seconds, and she was added to the Paris team's roster. Split is not available at this time.
Kim received a bonus of 1 million won (approximately 745 US dollars) for setting a new Korean record. His performance today ranks him 7th in the world this season.

Another notable swim came in the women's 200m back final. Lee Eun Ji His time of 2:09.88 was worthy of a gold medal.
Remarkably, this is the exact time the boy recorded in yesterday's heat, having already beaten the World Aquatics Olympic qualifying time of 2:10.39.
Lee's result was just shy of the Korean record of 2:09.49. Im Da Sol Logged in in 2019.
The rising star achieved success at the Asian Games, winning bronze in the women's 100-meter dash with a time of 1:00.03, which tied the national record, and bronze in the 200-meter dash with a time of 2:09.75. She also helped win three national relay medals.
Lee Joo Ho He reached the top of the podium in the men's 200m backstroke.
Lee, 29, recorded a time of 1 minute 56.52 seconds, coming within 0.5 seconds of the national record of 1 minute 56.05 seconds set at the Korean national exam in November.
His time was lower than the World Aquatics Olympic qualifying time of 1 minute 57.50 seconds, earning him a spot on the Korean roster for the Paris team.
Li is the current Asian Games silver medalist, clocking 1:56.54 at the Hangzhou Games.
Other notes
- Men's 100m dash breast saw Choi Dong Yeol As the gold medalist, he stopped the clock at 1:00.23. He owns the Korean and Japanese records for both the 50 meters (26.93 seconds) and 100 meters (59.28 seconds), results obtained at last year's Asian Games. He won bronze medals in each event in Hangzhou, and his 100m chest time there and top results in these trials qualified him for this summer's Olympics.
- Lee Heeun She won the women's 200m fly in a time of 2:09.94.
- world champion Hwang Sun Woo He made his presence felt in the men's 100m free heats. The Japanese record holder clocked a time of 48.80 seconds and landed in lane 4 for tomorrow's final. The 20-year-old holds a lifetime best of 47.56 points at the event since 2021.
- Heo Young Kyung In today's qualifying round, she recorded a time of 55.38 seconds in the women's 100m freestyle, taking the lead by more than 1 second.
