PUNTA GORDA, Fla. — Spencer Mumme, owner and operator of Pythagoras Jiu-Jitsu in Punta Gorda, will be in Mexico City to compete in the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Tournament on March 24th.
Mumme, a black belt, will open a gym in 2022 to teach his techniques to those who want to learn martial arts.
“It gives us a great tribe mentally where we have all nine things when it comes to what we belong to, the confidence we build, character, discipline and martial arts,” Mumm said. Ta.
For the past three years, Mumme has been plagued by injuries and has not played in any tournaments.
“I just had two back surgeries last year,” Mam said. “For the past three years, I haven’t been able to compete because of back problems.”
Now recovered, Mumme continues to train with his students and partners in preparation for his third appearance in the Combat Jiu-Jitsu World Tournament.
“This was a process of getting him to understand what he wanted to do and what he wanted to accomplish from a game plan standpoint,” said Charles Davin, Mumm's student and owner of Rashguard Soap. “He feels very prepared and he's honestly better than he's ever been.”
Mumm was able to compete in up to four games with the goal of winning the tournament for his family and community.
“I truly believe I have what it takes to win it all, and if I don't, I'm going to have fun and give it my all,” Mumm said. “I’m really excited to be able to do that and really excited to represent Southwest Florida.”
The fight will be available to watch on UFC Fight Pass.
