Ben Tynan has made a big leap into the ONE Championship heavyweight division with his victory over Kang Ji-won. On Friday, April 5th, he will take on Duke Didier at ONE Fight Night 21, drawing attention to Anatoly Malihin and the rest of the heavyweight contenders. That's why he's hoping for a big finish in Bangkok, Thailand.
“He seems like a decent grappler. He's got some tricks up his sleeve, I'll give it to him. It looks decent enough. But other than that, I don't know. Too cocky. I don't want to, but I'm going to decapitate this guy,'' Tynan told ONE.
Tynan also said he would finish on the mat if the match ended there. But he's clearly looking for a big knockout on the highlight reel to continue growing his fan base. With a strong background in wrestling, Tynan has spent a lot of time fine-tuning his striking.
“I say one round done. I'm going to get his head off my shoulders. I want a big strike. He doesn't like to strike very much, and you don't see a lot of striking in a lot of my matches. People think I can only wrestle because I focus too much on wrestling, but what people don't realize is that I train with some of the best guys here in Denver and I can also strike. That's why I want to rip his head off,'' Tynan said.
If Vanilla Thunder can compete on the world stage for the second consecutive year, there is no doubt that they will have an even bigger opponent in their third appearance. For Tynan, that's exactly the plan at ONE Fight Night 21. And he has his sights set on doing it in front of an American audience.
Tynan attended ONE Fight Night 10 in 2023 as a fan. He has witnessed the glitz and glamor from the stands and now wants to taste it. After ONE Fight Night 21, Tynan will be part of ONE's return card in the United States.
“I had a good result here, so I definitely want to fight some big names. I’ll be fighting some of the top heavyweights in ONE, but I really want to fight here in Denver on this card as well. There is [on September 6]. I think that's pretty sick. That's what I want to promote. I'm going to beat this Australian and then get ready for the fight here in Denver,'' Tynan said.
Tynan may have ignited his ONE career with his debut, but he's looking to build on it even more on April 5th. Tynan, a talented heavyweight, wants his fans to take notice and see what he's capable of inside the ring. After ONE Fight Night 21, Tynan is expected to be one of the biggest breakout stars of 2024.
“This is just the beginning, baby. If I could tell my fans anything, it would be to ride the 'Vanilla Thunder' storm because this is literally just the beginning of something really big.” “I may not have as much name recognition or publicity as some people right now, but I guarantee you that within the next year I will be one of the biggest names in this company,” Tynan said.
ONE Fight Night 21 will air live on Prime Video on Friday, April 5th. The action begins at 8pm ET/5pm PT. This event is free to all Amazon Prime members based in the US and Canada.
