The Bobcats finished the regular season in second place in the district league.
SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Central Bobcats soccer team sits in second place in the district and is one win away from earning the Gold Ball heading into next week's bi-district round.
But even as they accomplish something their own program hasn't accomplished in over a decade, the Bobcats are fighting for even more.
The team lost beloved teammate Jake Carrillo earlier this month. His death shook the team to its core, but through the pain they found new purpose.
“Actually, just being there for him and his family makes you feel really great. We showed up there for him and his family whenever there was a tough time, and we showed up there in the playoffs. It means a lot to us just to have him and what he represents.''He did what he did for us,'' goaltender David Quiroz-Peña said.
Quiros Pena is one of the leaders of this Bobcats team, along with Jacob Castro. Castro said he and his teammates are ready to make history after this difficult time and to Carrillo's credit.
“We have a history focus throughout this program, which means we've been looking for this (to make history) for the past four years since I've been here,” Castro said. Told.
The team has a chance to do that if they win next Tuesday against El Paso-Montwood. A win would be Central's first playoff win in football in more than 10 years.
