As of now, Canelo (60-2-2, 39 KOs) says he is only up to “$25” in prize money for his fight with Benavidez. [million] And for him, the battle is not worth it, because the rate of the battle is from 150 to 200 million.
Canelo wants big money
This logically means that unless the Saudi side provides such funding, a fight between Canelo and Benavidez (28-0, 24 KOs) won't happen because no U.S. promoter has that kind of financial power. It means no.
Also, if Canelo was getting paid 150-200 million, Benavidez would probably want at least half that amount. No promoter outside of Saudi Arabia can come up with the $300 million in guaranteed money to split between Canelo and Benavidez for a big fight.
“Who is this guy offering me money?'' Canelo Alvarez asked the media today about David Benavidez and whether he offered him $50 million for the fight. If he offers me the amount he says, I can make that amount with anyone. It's nothing. ”
Canelo has a point. The prize money he would earn for a fight with Benavidez by a U.S. promoter would not be much different than what he would earn for a fight with any other fighter. If all he gets is an extra $25 million for fighting Benavidez, that's not enough incentive to take the fight. Wages don't go up that much either.
“Maybe, who knows?” Canelo asked if the fight with Benavidez was the biggest fight that could have happened. “He brings me nothing. He brings just 25 [million] I'll tell you more about that night's battle in a little more detail. That's it.
“But I feel like he's not the kind of person to offer me money. I'm that person. If a promoter comes to me and offers me 150 million or 200 million, I'll fight tomorrow. That's why I'll fight him, because the only thing he brings to the table is 25 [million] more.
“I don't have to fight anyone. I remember when this happened with Golovkin, so I don't have to prove anything to anyone,” Canelo said when asked if he felt pressured to fight Benavidez. Ta.
