NBA legend Michael Jordan has publicly acknowledged that there are comparisons between his game and Anthony Edwards' game.
“Today I reached out to the GOAT, Michael Jordan,” Chris Broussard said on FS1. first things first. “And Jordan said there are similarities in their games, and he agreed. So when Jordan says there are similarities, there are similarities.”
Edwards, who is emerging as a superstar for the Minnesota Timberwolves, has drawn comparisons to Jordan all season, given his mindset, style, athleticism and overall game.
Comparisons between Edwards and Jordan began to heat up in November, when an NBA scout told ESPN's Tim McMahon that Edwards was “the second Michael Jordan.”
Milwaukee Bucks veteran Patrick Beverley also told reporters in November that “I've been telling everyone from the beginning” that Edwards “has a chance to be Michael Jordan.”
“People looked at me like I was crazy,” Beverley added.
Edwards' much talked about dunk over Utah Jazz veteran John Collins on Monday night even drew comparisons to the Chicago Bulls legend.
But Edwards has carved out his own path to NBA greatness, and when he spoke with Complex's Speedy Moman in December, he said he wants the comparisons to Jordan to stop.
“I just want them to stop,” Edwards said. “Because he's the greatest basketball player in history, and I'm far from it.”
Edwards, 22, played in 65 games this season, averaging 26.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists while shooting 46.7 percent from the floor and 37.0 percent from deep.
Thanks in part to Edwards, the Timberwolves sit in second place in the Western Conference with a 47-21 record and have a legitimate chance to reach the NBA Finals.
