CHARLOTTE (Charlotte Sports Live) — Bank of America Stadium will host two of the world's most popular soccer clubs this summer.
On Tuesday, Tepper Sports & Entertainment announced that an international friendly between Real Madrid CF and Chelsea FC will be held in Charlotte on August 6th.
Special advance tickets will go on sale from March 25th, and general sale tickets will go on sale from March 27th.
“Since Tepper Sports & Entertainment's investment to bring Major League Soccer to Charlotte, our city's international footprint in the world game has exploded,” said Charlotte FC President Joe LaBou. “We couldn't be more excited to welcome the Soccer Champions Tour to Uptown Charlotte this summer. One of our core goals has always been the advancement of soccer and our commitment to being a soccer city. It's about enhancing Charlotte's reputation. Real Madrid and Chelsea are arguably the two most recognizable brands in the world, and on August 6th, Charlotte took center stage.”
Real Madrid, Europe's winningest team with 14 Champions League titles, will play in Charlotte for the first time. With a record of 22 wins, 6 losses and 1 draw, Real Madrid are on track to win their 36th La Liga title this season. This is the most for any club in Spain's top flight (Barcelona are second with 27 wins).
Chelsea, two-time Champions League champions and six-time Premier League champions, will return to Bank of America Stadium for the first time in three years. In Charlotte FC's first year in 2022, the Crown defeated the Blues 5-3 in a shootout.
The match between Real Madrid and Chelsea will take place immediately after Copa America 2024, with Charlotte set to host the semi-finals and third-place match.
