CEBU CITY, Philippines – Cebuano boxing prospect John Kevian Jimenez of Chaosi Boxing Stable has been selected as the “Boxer of the Month” for February by the Games and Amusement Board (GAB).
Jimenez, 19, earned that recognition with his win over Jason Brillo on February 9 in Passi City, Iloilo.
Their match was the main event of Manny Pacquiao's blow-by-blow boxing series.
With this victory, Brillo won the vacant Philippine youth minimumweight title.
Jimenez, a gold medalist at Palarong Pambansa, extended his undefeated record to seven wins and three knockouts.
Meanwhile, Brillo suffered his first loss in seven matches.
Prior to defeating Brijo, Jimenez had an impressive run in 2023, defeating both experienced and younger opponents in overwhelming fashion.
He fought four times in 2023, defeating Jomari Ladera, Ariel Antonio, Ramcy Mondara, and Charlie Malpangue.
Jimenez is scheduled to fight on June 15 at the NUSTAR Resort and Casino, said Lorenzo “Chao” Shi, promoter and manager and regional president of the Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP).
He will be one of the undercard attractions for the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Asian lightweight title fight between 'Prince' Albert Pagara and China's Aketerieti Elejan.
