Dillian Whyte won his comeback fight after clearing his name from a doping violation, but was left frustrated by his opponent Christian Hammer and gave up in the third round.
Dillian Whyte lashed out at opponent Christian Hammer, calling him a “coward” after an easy win in his comeback match.
Whyte defeated the Romanian boxer in three rounds in a low-key bout in Ireland on Sunday. This was the 30th professional win of his career and his first since defeating Jermaine Franklin in November 2022.
The 35-year-old was fighting for the first time since clearing his name of a doping violation that led to his fight with Anthony Joshua being called off in August. White submitted “adverse analytical results,” but was later found not guilty after the positive test was determined to have been caused by contaminated supplements.
White dominated the fight with Hammer from the final bell, but was disappointed to see his opponent not stand up in the fourth round. “He was always negative.” [the way] It will pass,” White said. “As soon as I hit him, he tested negative. I told him later that he was a coward, but I really meant it.
“It's very frustrating. We put so much effort into preparing for this fight and it's very frustrating that he quit after only three rounds. After that in the ring, I always respected him. But I said he was a coward tonight.”
Furthermore, he added: “He just quit, what can I do? I've been through a lot of hell and a lot of darkness, so there was a lot of pent-up frustration and aggression, and it's funny, camp It was calm, everything was calm, and it had to come out at some point in my nature, you know.”
White added to Boxing Social: Obviously the Hummer came out swinging and then the pit bull in me backed off a little bit and then I was in a hurry and made a stupid mistake, but whatever. ”
Whyte is keen to fight again as soon as possible but has not obtained a license from the British Boxing Board of Control. The bout with Hammer was organized by the Irish Boxing Federation, and he is licensed by the Texas Commission.
When asked where he would fight next, he replied: I'll go and fight wherever I can to stay busy. Time is running out. I'm not getting any younger. I don't know what's going to happen next, I just want to fight. Let's wait and see. “
The Briton aims to have seven or eight more fights before retiring and said he would be happy to fight Joshua or Joe Joyce. When asked who might be next, he replied: I've never turned down a fight, anyone who wants it can have it. ”
