The top four finishers from Scottie Scheffler's The Players Championship could form the U.S. men's golf team for the Paris Olympics.
Four American players ranked within the top 15 in the Official World Golf Ranking after the U.S. Open this June will qualify for the Paris tournament. Since OWGR is his two-year rolling ranking, Olympic qualifying began after his 2022 US Open.
Scheffler, currently ranked No. 1 in the world, will also lead The Players in the U.S. Olympic Trials. According to golf ranking guru @VC606.
The back-to-back wins at TPC Sawgrass solidified Scheffler's bid for his first Olympic appearance.
Windham Clark, Xander Schauffele and Brian Herman, who shared second place one stroke behind Scheffler at The Players, also boosted their chances of making it to the Olympics.
Clark, who won the US Open last June, started the tournament in second place in the American rankings.
Tokyo gold medalist Schauffele started 2024 without qualifying for the Olympics. According to @VC606.
He qualified for the Olympics in January and finished 3rd in @VC606's American rankings on The Players.
According to @VC606 , Herman, the British Open champion last July, started 2024 in third place among the Americans, but was then passed by Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
His strong performance at The Players further strengthened his hopes of qualifying for the Olympics.
The fight for an Olympic berth could last until June's U.S. Open at Pinehurst, the final tournament in the two-year qualifying period. Major championships give you the most ranking points.
